Actor Ajaz Khan arrested in drugs case by NCB

MUMBAI: Bollywood actor and former contestant of reality show Bigg Boss 7 Ajaz Khan was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) today after he was taken into custody yesterday from the Mumbai airport upon his arrival from Rajasthan. NCB officials said that they have interrogated Khan for over 8 hours and after they found several inconsistencies in his statement they formally arrested him.

Khan was detained for questioning over restricted drugs found at his Mumbai home, NCB has said that it had found alprazolam tablets from his residence during searches in the city's Andheri and Lokhandwala areas.

According to the NCB, Khan is part of narcotics peddler Shadab Farooque Shaikh alias Shadab Batata's syndicate, who was arrested last Thursday and nearly 2 kilograms of the banned mephedrone drug were recovered in his possession. NCB officials say that Khan's name cropped up during the interrogation of Batata.

Khan however claimed he was not detained but had himself came to meet the officers, he said that the agency had found only 4 sleeping pills at his home. "My wife has suffered a miscarriage & is using these pills as antidepressants," he said while being taken for medical after his arrest.

NCB officials say that they had conducted a couple of raids related to the case and further investigations are on.

After the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput's last year, the NCB has tightened the screws on the alleged Bollywood-narcotics syndicate with searches, interrogations, and arrests being made in this connection. Several leading names of the industry including Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Shraddha Kapoor, and Sara Ali Khan have been questioned by the NCB in the past few months.
