Anupam Kher says govt 'slipped' somewhere in its management of the pandemic

MUMBAI: Leading actor and former Film and Television Institute of India chairperson Anupam Kher who is known for his pro-Narendra Modi-led BJP government stand has said that the government has "slipped" somewhere in its management of the health crisis.

In an interview with news channel NDTV, Kher said, "We should as people get angry. It is important to hold the government responsible for what has happened."

When asked by the NDTV anchor if the efforts of the government should have been more in providing relief right now than managing their own image and perception, Kher said it is important for the government to rise to the occasion and do things for the people who elected them.

"It is time for them to understand that there is much more to life than just image building maybe," he added.

In a reference to the scores of bodies found floating in the Ganga which was believed to be those of COVID-19 patients, Kher said, "I think the criticism is valid in lots of cases. Only an inhuman person will not get affected by the bodies floating in the rivers."

He however added that for another political party to use it for their gain, I think that is also not right.

During the interview with the channel, Kher said that his initiate 'Heal India' through Anupam Kher Foundation has collaborated with Dr Ashutosh Tewari (Global Cancer Foundation, USA) and Baba Kalyani (Bharat Forge, India), was trying to help those who need ventilators and oxygen concentrators.
