Congress Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Satav dies due to post COVID-19 infection

PUNE: Member of Parliament from Rajya Sabha and senior Congress leader Rajeev Satav died today due to several complications, days after recovering from COVID-19 infection, at the Jehangir Hospital here in Pune. 

According to the formal statement by the hospital Satav was admitted to the hospital on April 23 with severe COVID-19 pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome. He had become 'RT-PCR swab negative' on May 9, but developed post COVID-19 complication and succumbed to 'secondary pneumonia with multi-organ dysfunction syndrome' around 5 am.

Forty six years old Satav was earlier the president of Indian Youth Congress and was considered a close aide of Rahul Gandhi. He was the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for the State of Gujarat & a permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee, the highest decision making body of the Congress party. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2020.

Condoling his death, Rahul tweeted, "I’m very sad at the loss of my friend Rajeev Satav. He was a leader with huge potential who embodied the ideals of the Congress. It’s a big loss for us all. My condolences and love to his family."

Several other leaders from various parties including Prime Minister Narendra Modi Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Prakash Javadekar expressed grief over Satav's demise. Modi tweeted, "Anguished by the passing away of my friend from Parliament, Shri Rajeev Satav Ji. He was an upcoming leader with much potential."

Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar who described him as a studious and aggressive leader said Satav's death was shocking.
