Delhi Drug Controler informs HC that Gautam Gambhir Foundation guilty of illegally stocking Fabiflu

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government’s Drug Control Department (DCD) informed the Delhi High Court that the Gautam Gambhir Foundation (GGF) of former Indian cricketer and BJP member of parliament Gautam Gambhir has been found guilty of illegally stockpiling, procuring, and distributing Fabiflu medicine to COVID-19 patients.

Along with GGF the state drug controller submitted before the division bench of justices Jasmeet Singh and Vipin Sanghi that it has also found Praveen Kumar MLA of the Aam Admi Party (AAP) guilty for similar offences under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act for hoarding of medicines.

DCD told the courts that its inquiry found that Fabiflu and oxygen were distributed free by both of them, but as per law neither had a license to either buy or distribute the same.

When the deadly second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic was at its peak in late April this year, Gambhir's GGF had offered Fabiflu and oxygen for free to patients in his constituency of East Delhi.

After the state, DCD submitted that action will be taken without delay against GGC and Kumar the HC asked the regulator to file status reports on further progress in these cases within six weeks and listed the matter for hearing on July 29.

The court was however gratified with the state drugs regulators report filed for another AAP MLA, Preeti Tomar under similar charges which had been ordered earlier.

Earlier in the case pertaining to the hoarding of medicines, the HC had dismissed the DCGI's (Drugs Controller General of India) earlier reports, giving clean chits to Gambhir and Kumar.
