Chirag Paswan removed as Lok Janshakti Party Chief

NEW DELHI: A day after 5 out of 6 of its Members of Parliament of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) joined hands to elect Pashupati Kumar Paras the youngest brother of party founder late Ram Vilas Paswan as the party leader, in an emergency meeting today, the party stripped Chirag Paswan of all positions of power from LJP.

According to party insiders, Chirag Paswan who is the 6th MP of the party was removed on the principle of 'One Man, One Post,' as he was the leader of the LJP parliamentary party and Parliamentary Board chairman besides the national president.

LJP has appointed Suraj Bhan as working president until a new president is elected in a national executive meeting to be held soon.

After the five MPs informed Speaker Om Birla about their decision, the Lok Sabha Secretariat on Monday evening recognised Paras as the leader of the LJP in the House.

Reportedly, the coup in the party reportedly launched with help from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the BJP will totally marginalise Paswan who will be stripped of every position of power held by him since taking over from his father in favour of uncle Paras.

Paras lauded Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as a good leader and a development-oriented man, highlighting the deep fault lines within the party as his nephew has been a strong critic of Janta Dal (U) chief. He told media people that he has not broken the party but saved it, asserting that 99 per cent of LJP workers were unhappy with the turn of events in Bihar as Paswan led his party to a miserable defeat in the 2020 assembly polls.

After sensing the revolt, Paswan tried to meet his uncle Paras and high drama was witnessed yesterday when he waited at his uncle's doorstep for an hour and 45 minutes to meet him, however, the door was opened and he had to return.
