BJP MLA says he is ashamed that Maneka Gandhi is an MP from his party

NEW DELHI: Condemning Maneka Gandhi's alleged spat with a vet in Agra over a call, during which she was heard abusing the medic, former Madhya Pradesh minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Ajay Vishnoi said that he was 'ashamed' that Gandhi was an MP from her party.

In a tweet, he put out in Hindi Vishnoi on the microbloggin site, Vishnoi said, "The words used by BJP MP Maneka Gandhi to talk to veterinary doctor Vikas Sharma don't prove that Veterinary College Jabalpur is bad but instead prove how poor a woman she is. I am ashamed she is a party MP (not a leader)."

The purported audio clip of the call between Ms Gandhi who is BJP's Sultanpur MP and former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi and the veterinary doctor had gone viral on social media earlier this week where she is allegedly blaming him for an alleged botched surgery on a dog and abusing and threatening him that she would have his license cancelled.

The MP is also purportedly heard asking vet NL Gupta to return the money he has taken from a client after performing the surgery and threatening to have his license cancelled.

Veterinarians across the country have lashed out against Ms Gandhi and 23rd June as a black day for the highhanded act and malicious mischief of using abusive language by the animal activist.

Veterinarian council and association have also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) President J. P. Nadda saying that the language and threat used by the MP are unparliamentary and is sure to malign the face of the government.

Ms Gandhi is not new to controversy. In January 2021, an audiotape became viral where Maneka Gandhi was allegedly berating Bengaluru businessman, Ramalingama for hitting a dog, and threatening to file sexual harassment cases against him. The man on the tape claimed that it was in self-defence, as the dog had bitten his daughter.
