The leaders of these opposition parties assembled at the Mahatama Gandhi statue in the Parliament comped and marched in protest to Vijay Chowk against the government.

The 11 opposition parties who participated in the symbolic protest march included the Congress Party, the NCP, the Shiv Sena, the Samajwadi Party, DMK, the CPI-Marxist, the CPI, the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Indian Union Muslim League, the Revolutionary Socialist Party and the Kerala Congress-Mani.

Addressing the media at the protest Gandhi said that the government had murdered the democracy as the opposition parties were not allowed to speak in the Parliament. "This is the first time in the history of Parliament that MPs were attacked inside the house," he said.

Commenting on the chaos in the house Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena said that he felt as if they were on the Pakistan border. "This was not a parliament session, we all have seen the murder of democracy yesterday. It seemed there was martial law in the house," he said.

The chaotic monsoon session of Parliament was curtailed by two days on Wednesday and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu expressed his anguish over the huge ruckus in the house. Naidu broke down while saying that the act of some opposition MPs was akin to 'sacrilege' in temple of democracy.

Interestingly members from the Trinamool Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party did not participate in the protest march led by Gandhi.
