Shah Rukh Khan sees and speaks to his son Aryan at Arthur Road Jail

MUMBAI: For the first time since his son Aryan Khan was arrested on October 3, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan today met him at the Arthur Road Prison, although both of them were at either side of a glass divider and could speak through the intercom and in the presence of jail officials as per jail rules. 

The visit was possible as the jail authorities had resumed the 'mulaqat' or meeting of undertrials with the relatives for about 15 to 20 minutes as per jail rules - from today which was discontinued due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

As the news of the superstar spread through television news channels and social media, a crowd had gathered to catch his glimpse however the jail authorities and the police had imposed a strong bandobast both outside and inside the prison. Despite that, it was seen that visitors in the jail jostled for a selfie or remove a picture with him. 

The actor who reached the jail premises at about 9 am without any other family member (Although four to five relatives are allowed) was safely escorted inside the prison where he had to go through the formalities like making a note in the jail register before meeting his son and he came out after about 40 minutes. 

Aryan who was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the case of seizure of drugs onboard a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast remains lodged in the city central prison on judicial custody (JC) as his bail plea has been rejected by the special court twice already. His legal team has now applied to the Bombay High Court to hear his bail request expeditiously.

The court has held that although Khan was not caught with any drugs on him, however since his friend Arbaaz Merchant who was along with him and was caught with the contraband during the raid and since Khan had the knowledge of it, it amounted to 'conscious possession' of both the accused.

During his, JC Aryan has spoken to his mother Gauri Khan and father over the phone and later they sent him a money order of Rs 4,500 through the jail officials for sundry expenses in the jail, like purchasing soap, toothpaste etc from the jail canteen.
