Active COVID-19 cases lowest in 555 days at 93,733

NEW DELHI: According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare update on COVID-19 till today morning, the count of active cases has declined to 93,733, the lowest in 555 days, which account for less than 1 per cent of total cases currently at 0.27 per cent which is the lowest since March 2020.

The health ministry release said that with 8,439 more people testing positive for COVID-19 in a day, India's infection tally rose to 3,46,56,822 on Wednesday. The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been recorded below 10,000 for 12 straight days and less than 50,000 for 164 consecutive days now.

The daily deaths according to the update were also at a low of 195 up to 8 am today taking up the total deaths due to COVID-19 to 4,73,952. The 195 new fatalities include 134 from Kerala and 19 from Maharashtra.

The data also shows that the number of people who have recuperated from the disease has surged to 3,40,89,137, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.37 per cent, the data showed.

As per the ministry data, the daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.70 per cent. It has been less than two per cent for the last 65 days while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 0.76 per cent. This has been below one per cent for the last 24 days, according to the health ministry.

In terms of vaccines, the ministry said that as of today 129.54 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive.
