Nupur Sharma's comments on Prophet Muhammad triggers protests all over the country

MUMBAI: Protests and sloganeering erupted in several parts of the country today against suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal's comment's on Prophet Muhammad.

Reports of protests from Delhi, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, Jharkhand capital Ranchi and other places after Friday congregational prayers

A big protest was held at the Jama Masjid in Delhi although the Shahi Imam of the Masjid said no call for protest was given by the mosque authorities. 

The protests in some parts of the country turned violent and police had to resort to lathi-charge and aerial firing. The police had to resort to lathi-charge in West Bengal's Howrah too.

In Mumbai, members of all India Maulayi Mission staged a protest over a controversial remark by two former BJP leaders against Prophet Mohammed outside Ashrafiya Jama Masjid at Lobar camp in Dharavi.
