Mumbai hit-and-run accused Mihir Shah arrested from Virar

MUMBAI: In a significant development in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, Mihir Shah, the main accused and son of prominent Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, has been apprehended by the Mumbai Police. Shah had been on the run since the incident occurred on Sunday morning, where his luxury car collided with a two-wheeler, resulting in the tragic death of a woman Kaveri Nakhva and injuries to her husband Pradeep Nakhva.

Shah had absconded after the accident and after giving the vehicle to his driver he was not traceable, however, after an intense search operation, Shah was finally arrested from Virar, a suburb near Mumbai. According to police sources, the breakthrough came after one of his accomplices had briefly switched on his cell phone, which helped in tracing his location.

The Mumbai Police had formed multiple teams to track down Mihir Shah, who had managed to evade capture for two days. Acting on crucial leads, the police zeroed in on an apartment in Virar, approximately 65 kilometres from Mumbai, where Shah was hiding. Apparently, he had changed his appearance to evade arrest by cutting off his beard and trimming his hair. The arrest was carried out smoothly, and Shah is now being taken to the Worli Police Station for further legal proceedings, he will be produced before a court and police will seek his custody for the maximum number of days.

The Mumbai Police have obtained crucial evidence linking Shah to the hit-and-run incident and are building a watertight case, however, experts say, the fact that Shah has been caught after nearly three days the possibility of detecting alcohol in his blood looks remote. They also said that bills and CCTV footage from a popular bar in Juhu, where Shah and his friends were reported to have spent several hours before the accident, will play a vital role in establishing his involvement.

The Vice-Global Tapas Bar, the establishment in question, has been sealed by the Excise Department in light of Shah's arrest. Furthermore, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) took immediate action by conducting a demolition drive at the bar, demolishing the unauthorized portions of the establishment. The BMC's intervention was prompted by the bar's involvement in serving liquor to Shah and its numerous violations of regulations.

Following Mihir Shah's arrest, his mother and two sisters were also brought to Mumbai from Shahapur in Thane district where they were hiding for questioning. The police are interrogating them, along with several others associated with the case, to gather more information about the incident and Shah's actions leading up to it.

The arrest of Mihir Shah brings some relief to the grieving family of the victim and the public at large, who have been demanding justice and stricter enforcement of traffic laws. The hit-and-run incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about road safety in the city. The Mumbai Police, along with other concerned authorities, continue their thorough investigation into the case, leaving no stone unturned to ensure a fair trial and bring the guilty to justice.

The arrest of the main accused, Mihir Shah, is expected to pave the way for further legal proceedings and provide some solace to the victim's family, who have been devastated by the tragic loss. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and increased road safety measures to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future.
