Kamal Haasan starrer 'Indian 2' grosses Rs 42.30 crore in two days

MUMBAI: Kamal Haasan starrer mega film 'Indian 2' has been doing well at the box office with a reported total collection of Rs 42.30 crore by the end of its second day. Akshay Kumar's Sarfira was only able to rake in less than Rs 7 crore on its second day. The Tamil version contributed Rs 13 crore, while the Hindi release added Rs 1.2 crore to its tally.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Indian 2' grossed Rs 16.7 crore on Saturday. The Tamil version contributed Rs 13 crore, while the Hindi release added Rs 1.2 crore to its tally. The Telugu audience contributed Rs 2.5 crore to the overall earnings. Opening day figures stood at Rs 25.6 crore, though subsequent days saw declines in Tamil and Telugu markets, with Hindi receipts remaining stable.

The first part of the franchisee 'Indian' was released 28 years ago in 1996 and had an unforgettable impact on audiences, earning it the sobriquet of being one of the most hard-hitting impactful films of all time. However despite the fact that Kamal Haasan has put his best in the sequel in the vigilante drama that revolves around the character Veerasekaran Senapathy, portrayed by the super starthe film has received some very sharp criticism and not so enthusiastic reception by the audience so far.

With a reported total collection of Rs 42.30 crore by the conclusion of its second day, it appears that the makers of the film who have reportedly spent nearly Rs 300 crores have banked upon Haasan's magnetism alone to keep the movie afloat in theatres.  Apart from Haasan, 'Indian 2' has a star-studded cast, including Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Gulshan Grover, and Bobby Simha.

In contrast, another big budget film released last Friday, 'Sarfira', starring Akshay Kumar which managed to garner favourable reviews is struggling at the box office, managing to rake in less than Rs 7 crore on it's second day of release. Besides Akshay 'Sarfira' stars, Paresh Rawal and Radhika Madan in the remake of Kongara's Tamil film Soorarai Pottru (2020), which itself was an adaptation of G. R. Gopinath's memoir Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey
