Influencer Aanvi Kamdar fatally falls into a gorge at Kumbhe waterfalls at Mangaon

PUNE: In an unfortunate incident a 27-year-old Instagram influencer identified as Aanvi Kamdar (26), a resident of Mumbai, who was on a monsoon outing with seven friends, fell into the 300 feet deep gorge near the famous Kumbhe waterfall at Mangaon in adjoining Raigad district while making a video on Wednesday. Superintendent of Police Raigad, Somnath Gharge, said that the woman was alive after falling into the gorge and was rescued, however, she passed away during the treatment.

Aanvi Kamdar's Instagram profile which goes as @theglocaljournal mentions her to be a Chartered Account, former Deloitte and digital creator for travel, luxury finds, cafes, itineraries, tips & feels and 2.5 lakh followers. She had gone to the waterfalls with her friends to enjoy the rainy season at the waterfalls and reportedly while taking photographs and videos of the waterfall, her leg slipped, and she fell straight into a 350-foot-deep gorge.

According to the SP, Gharge, on being alerted by her friends, police along with local rescuers reached the spot, however, when they launched the rescue from the gorge big stones were falling down. He said, "While descending to rescue the woman from the gorge, there were big stones falling on us. At first, it seemed like the woman was not alive. However, after going closer, she was breathing, which confirmed that she was alive. She was immediately taken to the hospital. However, she died during the treatment." Injured Aanvi was rushed to nearby Mangaon taluka government hospital, where she died during treatment, he added.

In another disturbing event earlier, on the afternoon of June 30, a family outing turned into a nightmare as five members were swept away by the strong currents drowning in a waterfall near the Bhushi Dam in Pune's Lonavala and the bodies were recovered by the rescue teams. Authorities continue to urge caution in these areas to prevent further tragedies but unfortunately, hordes of crowds flock to such dangerous places and are seen defying warnings. Suhas Diwas, the District Collector of Pune, appealed to the public to be careful of their visiting surroundings and to not go near any water bodies in the rainy weather.
