BENGALURU: Janata Dal (Secular) or JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna the grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has been granted conditional bail by a Bengaluru court in a sexual abuse case. Suraj who is Prajwal Revanna's brother who was arrested in June for allegedly sexually assaulting a male party worker, received bail with several stringent conditions. 

Suraj Revanna's case involves allegations from a 27-year-old male JD(S) worker who claimed that Suraj sexually assaulted him at a farmhouse in Ghannikada on June 16 accusing him of unnatural offences, wrongful confinement, and criminal intimidation. He was arrested by the Hassan Police on June 22 and the case was then handed over by the State government to the CID for further probe. The police have filed an FIR against him under IPC sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (involvement of others in the conspiracy). Suraj has been in judicial custody since then and the court had remanded him to judicial custody until July 18. 

While granting him bail, the court has mandated that Suraj must not threaten or contact the complainant directly or indirectly. He is required to present himself before the investigation officer whenever called and must mark his attendance on the second Sunday of every month between 9 AM and 5 PM for six months or until the charge sheet is filed. Additionally, he has been ordered to surrender his passport and obtain written permission from the court to leave the state.

Suraj denied the allegations, asserting that the complainant was attempting to extort money from him. His brother Prajwal former JDS MP, who lost the recent Lok Sabha election as the NDA candidate from Hassan, was arrested on May 31, when he returned to the country after nearly five weeks. He is charged with sexual abuse of several women after pen drives of explicit videos allegedly involving him surfaced in Hassan and other places days ahead of the April 26 election.

Suraj's father HD Revanna was earlier arrested for allegedly kidnapping a sexual abuse victim of Prajwal to prevent her from testifying against the former MP and is out on bail. His mother Bhavani Revanna has secured anticipatory bail in the same case.
