NEW DELHI: In a new global record, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's followers on X reached 100 million, making him the second most-followed world politician after former US President Barack Obama who had more than 131 million followers on X. Social media platform X CEO and billionaire Elon Musk has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the most followed world leader on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter. "Congratulations PM @NarendraModi on being the most followed world leader!", Elon Musk wrote on X on Friday.

The Republican presidential nominee for the 2024 elections and former US President Donald Trump is at the third spot, with more than 87 million followers on X. With more than 38 million followers, US President Joe Biden is at the fourth spot, followed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Hillary Clinton. In terms of the most followed people on X, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter (now X) in October 2022, is at the top spot with more than 190 million followers. With more than 112 million followers on X, star Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo is in the third spot, followed by Canadian musician Justin Bieber and Barbadian singer Rihanna.
Among the other Indian political leaders, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has 26.4 million followers on the social media platform. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is ahead of him with around 27.5 million followers.
The list of top celebrities on X includes cricketer, Virat Kohli with 64.3 million followers, legendary actor and superstar Amitabh Bachchan with 48.9 million followers, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar with 46.8 million followers, Salman Khan with 45.6 million followers and Shah Rukh Khan close behind with 44.1 million followers. Actor Hrithik Roshan has 32.3 million followers and music maestro A.R.Rahman has 24.3 million followers on X. Among the female actors, Priyanka Chopra has a follower base of 27.5 million while Deepika Padukone has a follower base of 26.6 million followers.
