NEW DELHI: The long-drawn process of elections is over and the exit polls are out they are predicting an impressive 'Modi' hattrick with equally outstanding performance for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A slew of exit polls which began broadcasting as the last phase of Lok Sabha polls ended on Saturday, overwhelmingly predicted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was cruising to a landslide victory in the just concluded general elections and PM Modi was most likely to become the first prime minister (PM) to secure three consecutive terms since the first PM Jawaharlal Nehru.
The top prominent exit polls which have a pan India footprint appearing in the leading news channels not only predicted a decisive win for the BJP but all of them have given a two-thirds majority for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the BJP with the average seat being project as over 400 in the 543-member house. On its own, the BJP has been positioned close to an average of 370-seat target by most of the exit polls.
If the predictions indeed translate to the predictions by the exit polls then it will be in the lines of the repeated slogan given by the alliance, 'Charso par' or four hundred plus. In the 2019 elections, the NDA had secured 336 seats and thus will be significantly improving their tally in 2004, if the the exit poll predictions come as per their declated estimates.
On the other hand, the Opposition’s Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA bloc) led by the Indian National Congress party (Congress) the exit polls predicted, will fall massively short of the 285 seats predicted by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and senior party leader Rahul Gandhi. As per the exit polls by leading pollsters, the INDIA bloc seemed to be failing across central and northern India with the Congress and are projected to perform poorly in the 190-odd seats where it is in direct contest with the BJP.
The Congress was projected to post poor results in Karnataka, a state where it won the biggest victory in a generation just last year, and not being able to capitalise on its victory in neighbouring Telangana either. The ABP-CVoter survey said that the NDA could get 368 seats and the INDIA bloc only 167. As per TV9Bharatvarsh, NDA is likely to get 342 and the INDIA grouping, 166 seats.
According to the Times Now-ETG survey, the NDA could get 358 and the opposition bloc only 132 seats, while the India Today-Axis My India exit polls the INDIA bloc will get in the range of 131 to 166 seats only.
