Narendra Modi takes oath as PM for third consecutive term

NEW DELHI: Marking a historic moment in Indian politics, Narendra Modi, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India for a record third time, making him the second Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to form a government at the Centre for the third time in a row. The swearing-in ceremony took place on Sunday, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the presence of several dignitaries and leaders of the regional grouping SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries and from the Indian Ocean region.
Thousands of people from all walks of life including prominent political leaders, industrialists including Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, film stars like Shahrukh Khan and Akshay Kumar, religious seers and as special invites Uttarakhand rat-hole miners, sanitation workers and many more people were present in large numbers in the Rashtrapati Bhavan precincts for the ceremony.
Along with Modi members of his new cabinet were also administered oath of office including BJP MPs Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Jagat Prakash Nadda, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, S. Jaishankar, Piyush Goyal, Sarbananda Sonowal, Pralhad Joshi, Dharmendra Pradhan, Giriraj Singh, Annpurna Devi, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Mansukh Mandaviya, Kishan Reddy, Kiren Rijiju, Hardeep Singh Puri, Dr Virendra Kumar and Manohar Lal Khattar.
From the alliance partner, HD Kumaraswamy of Janata Dal (S), Jitan Ram Manjhi of the Hindustani Awam Morcha, Rajiv Ranjan Singh of Janata Dal (United), Kinjarapu Naidu of Telugu Desam Party, Chirag Kumar Paswan of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) were also administered the oath of office.
The 2024 Lok Sabha election results showed that although the BJP failed to secure a majority on its own, the BJP-led NDA alliance won 293 out of the 543 seats in the Lok Sabha, paving the way for Narendra Modi to become the Prime Minister for a third consecutive term.
PM Modi’s first term as Prime Minister began on May 26, 2014, after the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won a landslide victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha election. He then started his second term as Prime Minister in 2019 following the NDA’s victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
