NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has publicly criticized its Lok Sabha MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, for her derogatory comments on the farmers' protest, making it clear that her views do not reflect the party's stance and that she is not authorized to speak on its policy matters. The BJP issued a statement instructing Ranaut to refrain from making such remarks in the future and stated that Ranaut's comments do not represent the party's views, expressing clear disagreement with her statements. The party also reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas' and to maintaining social harmony.

In a video clip from an interview, Ranaut had suggested that India could have faced a situation similar to Bangladesh if not for the country's strong leadership. She further alleged that during the farmers' protest against the now-repealed farm laws, bodies were hanging, and rapes were occurring, insinuating involvement from China and the US in a "conspiracy." 

As the BJP distanced itself from Ranaut's remarks, the opposition party Congress demanded her expulsion, questioning the ruling party's true stance if it disagreed with her views. With elections in Haryana - where the farmers' protest had significant support, especially from Punjab farmers - approaching, the BJP is keen to avoid any backlash from Ranaut's statements. 

Ranaut, known for her hardline and often provocative opinions, has previously made inflammatory comments about the farmers' protest, which only subsided after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the repeal of the three contentious farm laws in November 2021. However, this instance marks the BJP's clearest public disavowal of her remarks. The party has previously advised Ranaut privately to be cautious in expressing her views.

Meanwhile, various farmer groups continue to speak out on multiple issues, prompting the centre to take measures to demonstrate its commitment to the farming community. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate urged the government to clarify Ranaut's claims about an alleged conspiracy by the US and China to destabilize the country.
