MUMBAI: In a significant move within the Indian automotive market, Tata Motors has officially unveiled its highly anticipated midsize SUV coupe, the 'Curvv'. The launch event, held in Mumbai, showcased Tata Motors introducing its first internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle with innovative design and advanced features, positioning it as a strong contender in the growing SUV segment.
The Curvv will be available at a competitive starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh, attracting potential buyers looking for style and performance and is introduced in three engine options with advanced dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Tata Motors has been a leader in the Indian automotive industry with a market share of nearly 19 per cent in the SUV segment with Tata Nexon as the highest-selling SUV, and the Curvv aims to build on this legacy by blending the attributes of a traditional SUV with the sleek aesthetics of a coupe.
The ICE Curvv has a new Hyperion gasoline direct injection engine, a 1.2-L Revotron petrol engine and the new 1.5-L KryoJet diesel engine with the segment’s first Dual Clutch Transmission in Diesel. Notably, the company had earlier introduced the Curvv electric vehicle (EV) segment.
The vehicle boasts a bold and dynamic silhouette, with a sloping roofline that enhances its sporty appeal. The front fascia features Tata’s signature grille and striking LED headlights, ensuring that the Curvv stands out on the road.
Under the hood, the Curvv offers a choice of powerful petrol and diesel engines, promising an exhilarating driving experience without compromising on fuel efficiency. The SUV coupe is equipped with advanced drivetrain technology, including both manual and automatic transmission options, catering to diverse driving preferences.
Inside, the Curvv is designed for comfort and connectivity, featuring a spacious cabin with premium upholstery and high-quality finishes. The dashboard is equipped with a state-of-the-art infotainment system that supports smartphone integration, navigation, and voice commands. Safety remains a priority, with multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, and advanced driver-assistance systems included as standard features.
Tata Motors’ Managing Director, Shailesh Chandra, expressed his enthusiasm during the launch event, stating, “The Curvv represents our commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. We believe this exciting new offering will not only meet the demands of our customers but also redefine the midsize SUV segment in India.”
Mohan Savarkar, Chief Product Officer and Vice-President, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles said that the Curvv will be manufactured in Tata Motors’ Ranjangaon plant and deliveries will begin from September 12. The company plans to ramp up production.
“We have started the production and as we get enquiries, we will be ramping up production. The production numbers are flexible and we can manufacture as per the consumer demand,” he added.
The launch of the Curvv comes at a time when the demand for SUVs in India is surging, with consumers increasingly seeking vehicles that combine practicality with modern design. Tata Motors aims to capture a significant share of this market, and early reactions from industry experts suggest that Curvv could be a game-changer.
With bookings now open and deliveries set to commence shortly, Tata Motors is optimistic about Curvv’s reception among Indian consumers. The company plans to leverage its extensive dealership network to ensure a seamless buying experience for customers.
