NEW DELHI: A loud explosion occurred near the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) public school in Rohini, Delhi, on the morning of October 20, 2024, according to police sources approximately at about 7:47 AM. Although no casualties have been reported so far, the blast was significant enough to cause damage to the school's wall and shatter the windows of nearby vehicles and shops.
Smoke was seen billowing from the area, and a foul smell was reported, indicating the need for a thorough examination. The police received a call about the incident shortly after it occurred, prompting immediate action.
Following the explosion, forensic teams and officers from the Delhi Police special cell quickly arrived at the scene to investigate the cause of the blast along with the bomb squad. Also, a team from the forensic science laboratory are at the site conducting further probes.
Initial media reports suggest that the explosion could have been caused by a gas cylinder blast at one of the nearby shops, however, the investigating agencies are probing the incident from all angles and are maintaining vigilance in the area as the investigation continues.
According to an NDTV report, senior police officer Amit Goel said that they have called in experts to investigate what led to the blast and in a later update, police said they have not found anything suspicious yet and the underground sewage line is being examined as part of the probe. Additionally, the National Security Guard has also been informed and a team of the special agency would visit the blast site to make an assessment.
The explosion has raised concerns among local residents, particularly given its proximity to a school. Fortunately, the prompt response from emergency services, including fire engines and bomb disposal units, has helped to secure the area. Investigations are ongoing to determine the nature of the blast and any potential threats to public safety.
