NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed optimism regarding the future of India-Spain relations following the recent visit of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to India. Modi stated that Sanchez's visit has "infused a new energy and enthusiasm" into the bilateral relationship, highlighting the potential for enhanced cooperation in various sectors. The visit marks the first by a Spanish leader to India in 18 years. Sanchez's itinerary included a roadshow in Vadodara, cultural shows, and a bilateral meeting at the historic Laxmi Vilas Palace.

The two leaders inaugurated India's first private military aircraft plant in Vadodara, Gujarat, a significant milestone in the defence and aerospace industries. The Tata Aircraft Complex, in collaboration with Airbus Spain, will produce the Airbus C-295 transport military aircraft.

During the inauguration, PM Modi highlighted the importance of this partnership, stating that it marks a new chapter in India-Spain relations. He emphasized that the collaboration will not only enhance India's defence capabilities but also contribute to the country's "Make in India, Make for the World" mission. Sanchez echoed these sentiments, praising the project as a triumph of Modi's vision to turn India into an industrial powerhouse.

During a press briefing, PM Modi emphasized the importance of Sanchez's visit in fostering deeper ties between the two nations. He noted that both countries share common values and interests, which can serve as a foundation for collaboration in areas such as trade, technology, and cultural exchange. The Prime Minister remarked, "The visit of Prime Minister Sanchez marks a significant step forward in our partnership, and I am confident that it will lead to fruitful outcomes for both our nations."

The discussions between the two leaders covered a wide range of topics, including economic cooperation, climate change, and security. Modi underscored the need for joint efforts to tackle global challenges, stating that "India and Spain can work together to address pressing issues that affect our societies."

Sanchez's visit also included meetings with various Indian business leaders, aimed at promoting investment opportunities and strengthening economic ties. The Spanish Prime Minister expressed his commitment to enhancing trade relations, stating, "Spain is eager to explore new avenues for collaboration with India, which is a key player on the global stage."

As both leaders look to the future, the visit is seen as a pivotal moment in enhancing the strategic partnership between India and Spain, paving the way for a more robust and dynamic relationship that benefits both countries and their citizens.
