Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan stabbed by intruder at home; out of danger after operation

MUMBAI:  In a disturbing turn of events, Actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked by an unidentified intruder early Thursday morning. Khan was stabbed multiple times during an alleged robbery inside his 12th floor apartment called Satguru Sharan, located in the upscale Bandra West area of Mumbai.

Early reports quoting the complaint lodged by Eliyama Philip, employed as caretaker and nurse for Khan's son Jeh, she woke up around 2 am after hearing a sound in Jeh's room and found the bathroom light on. Saif and his actor wife Kareena Kapoor were sleeping on the floors above. When she went to check she saw a short, thin man come out and move towards Jeh's bed. 

On seeing her the man pointed a finger at her and told her not to make any sound, however as she tried to go towards Jeh to wake him up, the man attacked her with a hacksaw-like blade and hurt her wrist. 

As she raised an alarm, Saif and his Kareena ran to the hall along with other staff of the house to confront the intruder, there was a scuffle with Saif during which he attacked him multiple times with a sharp knife which caused severe bleeding. 

They were somehow able to overpower him and locked him up in a bedroom after which they hurried to rush severely inured Saif to Lilavati hospital where neurosurgery was conducted on his spinal cord to remove the piece of the knife lodged and plug the leaking spinal fluid due to the assault.  Meanwhile, in the commotion, the intruder managed to escape and rushed out of the building. A CCTV has captured his image as he walked down the stairs of the building and escaped. 

Neurosurgeon, Dr Nitin Dange from Lilavati Hospital later said, that Saif was admitted to the hospital at 2 am with an alleged history of assault by an unknown person. He sustained a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a lodged knife in the spine. A surgery was performed to remove the knife and repair leaking spinal fluid.

“Two other deep wounds on his left hand and one on his neck were repaired by the plastic surgery team. He is completely stable now. He is recovering well and out of danger,” Dr. Nitin added.

Meanwhile taking very serious cognisance of the crime the Mumbai Police has swung into action and has announced that they are ascertaining the identity of the lone suspect via CCTV footage and have formed several teams to nab the attackers.
