Saif Ali Khan discharged from hospital 5 days after knife attack at home

MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was discharged from Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital on January 21,  where he underwent emergency surgery after sustaining multiple knife wounds when an intruder broke into his home and stabbed him multiple times.

The 54-year-old actor suffered six stab wounds, including injuries to his spine, neck, and hands, and underwent two surgeries to repair his wounds, including a significant injury to his thoracic spine. Doctors have now advised complete rest to aid his recovery. His wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, was by his side throughout the ordeal and was present during his discharge from the hospital along with his children.

The assailant, identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, was arrested by Mumbai police shortly after the attack. Shehzad, who had been residing in the city under the alias Vijay Das, is believed to be a Bangladeshi national and a former national-level wrestler. He had been working with a housekeeping agency in Mumbai for several months. Police are still investigating his motives and other potential criminal activities.

The incident has raised concerns about security in upscale neighbourhoods, leading Khan’s family to take measures to enhance their safety. Reports suggest that the actor has since beefed up his security, employing the services of fellow actor Ronit Roy's security firm.

Meanwhile, Khan also invited and expressed his gratitude to Bhajan Singh Rana, the auto-rickshaw driver who rushed him to the hospital after the attack. Rana shared his experience with the media, stating that Khan and his family treated him with respect and assured him of their support whenever needed.
