Model of Adani Group's 1,000-bed hospital plan in Kandivali
MUMBAI: The Gautam Adani Group on Monday announced it will construct a 1,000-bed hospital and medical college each in Mumbai and Ahmedabad in partnership with the US-based medical centre Mayo Clinic, known as Adani Health Cities. The Gautam Adani-led ports-to-energy conglomerate plans to invest Rs 6,000 crore to build the two integrated health campuses as the group’s not-for-profit healthcare arm.
The Mumbai medical facility will be in the Kandivli campus, which will be the largest private hospital in Mumbai, surpassing the current largest private facility, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, which has a capacity of 750 beds. Although the civic-owned Seven Hills Hospital, situated in Andheri East, has a capacity to expand to 1,500 beds, it currently operates only 400 due to an ongoing dispute in the National Company Law Tribunal.
The new Adani Health campus hospital will feature multi-specialty services, medical colleges with an annual intake of 150 undergraduates, over 80 residents, and 40 fellows, as well as research facilities. It will provide affordable, world-class medical care and medical education, according to a press statement issued by the group.
Gautam Adani, the chairman of the Adani Group, stated that the partnership with Mayo Clinic will help elevate healthcare standards in India, with a focus on complex disease care and medical innovation.
The initiative is part of a larger commitment by the Adani family to improve healthcare, education, and skill development across India. Adani was quoted as saying in the statement, “I am confident that our partnership with Mayo Clinic, the world’s largest integrated not-for-profit medical group practice, will help to elevate healthcare standards in India, with a special emphasis on complex disease care and medical innovation.”
US-based Mayo Clinic, a well-known chain of medical institutions, will provide strategic advice to the Adani Group on organisational objectives and clinical practices at these establishments, the statement added. Mayo Clinic will also offer expert guidance on the integration of technology, with a focus on digital and information technology and healthcare quality enhancement, the statement added.
