India records 18,711 new COVID-19 cases and 100 deaths

NEW DELHI: Six states across the country have collectively accounted for 84.71% of the 18,711 new daily cases reported in last 24 hours. The states reporting high daily COVID19 cases are Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.

According to a release from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MHFW), Maharashtra continues to report the highest daily new cases at 10,187. It is followed by Kerala with 2,791 while Punjab reported 1,159 new cases.

As far as fatalities were concerned 100 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra saw the maximum casualties at 47, and Kerala follows with 16 daily deaths while Punjab reported12 deaths.

As a piece of encouraging news, 19 states and Union Territories including large states like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Sikkim etc have not reported any COVID19 deaths in the last 24 hours. 

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,08,68,520 which translates to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 96.95 per cent, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.41 per cent.

As far as nationwide vaccination was concerned MHFW release says that more than 2 cr (2,09,22,344) vaccine doses have been administered through 3,39,145 sessions, as per the provisional report till 7 am today. 

These include 69,82,637 health-care workers (HCWs) (1st dose), 35,42,123  front- line workers (HCWs) (2nd dose), 65,85,752 FLWs (1st dose) and 2,11,918 FLWs (2nd Dose), 4,76,041 beneficiaries aged more than 45 years with specific co-morbidities (1st Dose) and 31,23,873 beneficiaries aged more than 60 years.
