NEW DELHI: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who was taken in preventive custody early tody morning at Hargon by UP police, en route to violence-hit Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and lodged at the PAC Guest House in Sitapur district, resorted to unique way of protest by resorting to safaigiri. 

In a 42-second video uploaed on social media, Priyanka is seen sweeping and cleaing the room of the guest house where she had been kept with a broom. 

Priyanka along with other Congress leaders including Rajya Sabha member Deepender Hooda, had left for Lakhimpur Kheri to visit the familes of those who had died in the violence, however they were intercepted and stopped about 20 kms before Lakhimpur Kheri and detained at about 5 am and stopped from poroceeding. They were formally arrested about about 6 am.  

According to Congress leaders even before her detention in , Priyanka was was barred from leaving Lucknow and was placed under a house arrest on Sunday evening. However latter in the night they managed to leave and proceeded towards Lakhimpur Kheri which is about 130 kms, but the police team kept on intercepting them at several places. 

When Priyanka confronted the police team, initially the officials were not able to explain as to why they were detainning them, but latter they said they were arresting her under Section 151 and was taken to the Sitapur Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) guest house.

According to Priyanka she and her colleauges were pushed and manhandled while being arrested by the UP police and were not shown any papers either except to be told that she was arrested under Section 151 on grounds that she was "going to commit a crime in future".

Priyanka repeatedly asked the police team that were arresting ther for paper, she said, "They did not show me any papers. If they do not give me any papers, then I will call it kidnapping."

Congress party's youth wing national president Srinivas BV tweeted, "Finally what was expected from the BJP has happened. In the democratic country of 'Mahatma Gandhi', the worshipers of 'Godse' have arrested our leader @priyankagandhi Ji who fought heavy rains and the police force to meet the 'Annadata', from Hargaon. This is just the beginning of the fight!! Kisan Ekta Zindabad,” Srinivas tweeted in Hindi.

Talking to media while in detention, Priyanka said that once released she will proceed to meet the vicitm families at any cost. "Although I do not have any access to lawyers I am told that under Sec 151 if they do not formally charge me within 24 hours under Section 151, then I can walk free. So once they leave me I will go to Lakhimpur Kheri."

She also strongly demanded the arrest of Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra's son Ashish, accusing him of of running over protesting farmers on Sunday.
