Ahead of launch a sneak-peek into Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV

NEW DELHI:  That Maruti Suzuki, the largest selling passenger car brand from our country is working on an electric vehicle (EV) has been the talk of the town for quite some time, however, if some spy shots of the car being test driven are to be believed the company is ready with an EV and it's a WagonR look alike.

The spy pictures of the car which is clearly based on the WagonR model will compete against existing EVs like Tata Tigor EV and Mahindra e-Verito which have a driving range of 140 km and 142 km respectively and market experts have been speculating that the Wagon R EV really will have a 200 km range, which will give it a competitive advantage over others.

Since the vehicle will most certainly have a long-range on a single charge, the EV is also expected to feature fast charging capabilities which means it will be able to charge up to 80% in about 40 mins using DC fast chargers which are also expected to be installed in the country very soon. Besides the vehicle will also have to support standard AC charging.

Though Maruti has stopped manufacturing diesel cars, the line-up for electric vehicles is yet to start, however, the rumours are that the Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV will be officially launched somewhere in the first quarter of 2022 and the company will then announce the production roadmap for the same.

The spied EV which was probably while testing on Gurgaon roads without camouflage, the car is missing the front grille that lets air pass through the radiator, also it appears that the headlights are placed in the middle of the bumper, with slim glass panels at the top of the bumper.

The car also comes with a set of fog lamps that are packing an air dam from both ends. The air vent is expected to cool down the electric motors. At the back, the taillights of the WagonR EV are tweaked enough to give it a fresh look but still maintain its original appearance.

The bumper is seen clad to give protection against low-lying damaging entities on the road. It also has a wiper at the back. The side looks like that of the current model of the WagonR, except for the alloy wheels that are borrowed by Maruti Suzuki Ignis. As for the price it is only in the realm of speculation and there are several different figures being quoted, so it will only be prudent to wait for the formal announcement to be very sure.
