Video of man urinating on tribal youth in MP sparks outrage

INDORE: A video showing a man urinating on a lone tribal youth in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district has recently gone viral, and it has sparked a huge outrage across the country and even from those who have seen it abroad. The incident, which has been widely condemned by all including political parties has led to several protests and demands for strict action against the perpetrator who is seen in the video.

According to media reports, police in Sidhi district have registered a case against the accused who has been identified as Pravesh Shukla, and he has been arrested under various sections including the National Security Act (NSA) a stringent law slapped on him. Apart from the NSA, the case registered at the Bahari police station were under Indian Penal Code sections 294 (obscene acts), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), and provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The incident has also led to a political war, with leaders from various parties condemning the act and demanding speedy justice for the victim.

The opposition parties including the Congress have claimed that the accused was linked to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was the associate of a BJP MLA from Sidhi, however, the ruling party had denied the allegation. State Congress chief Kamal Nath in a statement said, that the video of the atrocity of (a man) urinating on a tribal youth from Sidhi district of the state that has surfaced is a very unfortunate incident. "This incident has put the entire Madhya Pradesh to shame, and the strictest punishment should be given to the guilty person and atrocities on tribals in Madhya Pradesh should be stopped," Nath said.

"There is no place for such a heinous act with the youth of the tribal community in civilised society, and the culprit was said to be associated with the BJP. Madhya Pradesh already ranks first when it comes to atrocities against tribals, the former chief minister added.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan while condemning the incident has said that criminals have no caste, religion or party. "A criminal is just a criminal. He will not be spared," he told media reporters adding that the government will ensure "sternest possible punishment" for the accused to make an example of him so that no one would dare to do such an act, especially on a tribal person.

MP state BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma has also said, "We will not spare him (culprit) at any cost, and it is not only unfortunate but such persons will be given sternest punishment."

The incident has once again brought to light the issue of discrimination and oppression faced by tribal communities in India. It is a reminder that despite progress in various spheres, many communities in the country continue to face discrimination and violence, and there is still a long way to go to achieve true equality and justice for all.
