MUMBAI: Shiv Sena- Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray who is on a two-day tour of Vidarbha region to reach out to his party workers, said in a rally that once there was a time when new governments used to be formed through the ballot papers, but now they are formed through 'khokas' (refers to crores in Hindi) and through the means of various agencies like enforcement directorate (ED) and Income Tax.
Addressing a rally at Digras in Yavatmal district, he referred to the recent defection of nine MLAs of the Nationalist Congress Party (NC) leaders led by Ajit Pawar, Thackeray said that a few days ago PM Narendra Modi said in Madhya Pradesh that a Rs 70,000 crore scam took place in Maharashtra and blamed it NCP leaders, but within a few days, Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) orchestrated a break in NCP and a section of them join the state government.
"What sort of Hindutva is this?” Thackeray asked his supporters further questioning, "What was the need to steal the NCP if the Maharashtra government was already enjoying the majority as claimed by the ruling BJP?"
Thackeray further said, that MLAs jumping from one party to another ahead of elections was well known in politics and has happened in past, nonetheless, swallowing a whole party is something that does not usually transpire and it has to be stopped. He referred to 40 MLAs of Shiv Sena who last year, broke off with him and joined with the BJP along with some independent legislators. They were later allowed the Shiv Sena party symbol and name.
"In a democracy, every party should be allowed to express their views even though they are political opponents," he said, further adding, "One nation, one law can be understood. But we will never accept one nation, one party plan of the BJP."
At Digras Thackeray also repeated what he had been maintaining, that
sharing of the Maharashtra chief ministerial post was decided between me and senior BJP leader Amit Shah before the 2019 state assembly elections but backtracked.
"Had the BJP respected the decision taken before the 2019 polls, it would not have been required to break other parties as they have done in the recent past.
"If that had been done, today, the BJP and Shiv Sena chief ministers would have completed their tenure," he added.
Taking a jibe at the various central investigating agencies, Thackeray likewise said that the central government was not able to control the violence in the north-eastern state of Manipur, and the government should now send officials of Income Tax, ED and CBI to silence those people like these teams do in other parts of India.
