Jewish Chabad House 26/11 target image found with terror suspects rings high alert

MUMBAI: Alerted after recovering a Google image of the 26/11 Mumbai attack target Chabad House a Jewish outreach centre in Colaba's Hormusji Street area, from two suspected terrorists arrested for planning an attack in Rajasthan, the Mumbai Police beefed up security outside the centre and around the area since the weekend. 

The five-storey landmark Chabad House formerly called Nariman House was one of the targets of the 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai in 2008 in which six of its occupants, including the caretakers Holtzberg and his wife, (who was six months pregnant) were killed. Their two-year-old son Moshe survived the attack after being rescued by his Indian nanny, Sandra Samuel, and Zakir Hussain.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has taken custody of Mohammad Imran Mohammad Yunus Khan and Mohammad Yunus Mohammad Yakub Saki who is a resident of Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh from Pune a few days ago and were probing the case and during the investigation, police got the Google image of Chabad House from them. Earlier, the ATS had arrested one person from Pune for giving shelter to both the suspected terrorists.

Earlier, both suspected terrorists Imran Khan and Yunus Saki were arrested by Pune city police during a regular combing operation while they were trying to steal a bike from the Kothrud area of the city on July 18 in the early hours. Maharashtra ATS further stated that both accused were booked under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) charges.

The ATS investigation revealed that both of them were planning to carry out anti-national activities to disturb the unity and safety of the nation, and for this, both had taken the training to make bombs and kept the required materials in their possession

ATS has recovered a tent from their residence that was planned for future use to have shelter in the jungles. ATS has also recovered a laptop, some Arabic literature, and a shining white powder that was found to be an explosive material. accused also had a weighing machine, a drone, electronic circuits item soldering machine.

The 26/11 attacks were a series of terrorist attacks that took place in November 2008, when 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a terror group from Pakistan, carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks at iconic places in Mumbai in which a total of 175 people died, and more than 300 were wounded.

The Chabad House building was home owned by the Jewish order in 2006 acted as an educational centre, a hostel, and a synagogue and offered drug prevention services to the visiting Jews and others.
