Sushmita says her daughters protest when she suggests getting married

MUMBAI: Famous Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen who has won praise for her portrayal of transgender activist Gauri Sawant in the recent web series 'Taali' on Jio Cinema said in a recent interview that her daughters do not miss having a father figure. 

In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Sushmita said, "They don’t miss having a father figure because they have never had a father. You only miss what you have."

She also said that now, when she even suggests to her daughters that she should get married, they would react like, "What? For what? I don’t want a father" and added that she may want a husband, it may have nothing to do with you. "They don’t miss a father. They have Tata, my father and their grandfather. He is everything to them. Anytime they need to have a father figure and a great example, he is the man,” she added.

Sen was born in  1975, into a Bengali family in Hyderabad to Shubeer Sen, a former Indian Air Force Wing Commander, and Subhra Sen, a jewellery designer and owner of a Dubai-based store. Sushmita has said that she shares a strong bond with her father, Shubeer Sen and this connection extends to her daughters, Renee and Alisah, who also share a close relationship with their grandfather. 

Sushmita was crowned Femina Miss India 1994 at the age of 18 and then went on to become the winner of the Miss Universe 1994 pageant being the first Indian to win the Miss Universe pageant after winning the Miss Universe pageant, she worked as a film actress. She has a younger brother named Rajeev Sen, who was married to television actress Charu Asopa.

Sushmita adopted Renee when she was just 24 years old and she brought home her second daughter, Alisah in 2010. Reflecting on her journey, Sushmita expressed pride in her younger self, emphasising that becoming a mother was her wisest decision. "The wisest decision I made at the age of 24 was to become a mother. It stabilised my life. People think it was a great act of charity and wonderful action but it was self-preservation. It was me protecting myself," she said at an event. 

Sen was in a relationship with actor Randeep Hooda for two years in 2004 after which she dated model Rohman Shawl for three years in 2018, early in July 2022, it was reported that she is dating businessman and cricket administrator Lalit Modi after some of their pictures appeared on social media.
