'Baipan Bhari Deva' grosses over Rs 89.60 crore in 45 days

MUMBAI: Director Kedar Shinde's Marathi film 'Baipan Bhari Deva' is going strong even after several weeks and is breaking box office records having already grossed over Rs 89.60 crore in 45 days of theatrical run worldwide. The highest-grossing Marathi film till now was Riteish Deshmukh’s directorial debut Ved released in 2022 and produced by his wife and actress Genelia Deshmukh.  

The film is not only the highest-grossing female-centric film in the Marathi film industry, but it also created a new record of the highest one-day collection of more than Rs 6.10 crores for the Marathi film industry in mid-July while it continued to go strong on word of mouth and appreciation from all quarters. Right from former cricket star Sachin Tendulkar to MNS President Raj Thackeray to Mumbai Police everyone has been showering their appreciation for the film.

Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre also posted a video on her social media handle after watching the film recently, and the team of 'Baipan Bhari Deva' met Sonali Bendre on the sets of the dance reality show. Taking to her Instagram handle, Sonali shared a video with director Kedar Shinde and the entire star cast of the film 'Baipan Bhari Deva' and urged that women are watching the movie anyways but men should also watch this movie.

The film 'Baipan Bhari Deva' boasts of talented actresses from all age groups ranging from 68-year-old Rohini Hattangadi to 48-year-old Deepa Parab Chaudhari along with Vandana Gupte, Sukanya Mone, Shilpa Navalkar and Suchitra Bandekar.

Distributed by Jio Studios, Baipan Bhari Deva which was released on June 30 with its woman-centric themes and unfashionably older cast has enthralled the audience with its storyline of six sisters who have been separated and having their own respective families with all their personal and financial problems. 

These six estranged sisters decide to take part in a Mangalgauri competition and reunite at their childhood home to practice. The story shows how they overcome their past and face their struggles head-on.

Talking about his film’s success, Kedar said in an interview, “It’s nothing new for me. I have a legacy of my maternal grandfather Shahir Sable. So success is all okay for me. I have to work harder. I have given milestone plays of Marathi on the stage."

The film which was made with a budget of Rs 5 crore, was originally titled 'Mangalagaur' till the shooting of the film's title song "Baipan Bhaari Deva" after which the co-producer Ajit Bhure suggested Kedar Shinde to change the film title to 'Baipan Bhaari Deva'.
