Sunny Leone pens birthday wish for director Anurag Kashyap

MUMBAI: Bollywood actress and model Sunny Leone penned down an adorable birthday wish for her film Kennedy’s director Anurag Kashyap. The director more famous for films like 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and 'Dev.D'  a modern twist to the classic novel Devdas turned 51 on Sunday.

Taking to Instagram, Sunny shared a picture which she captioned, "Happy Birthday to the man who actually changed the course of my life!! I hope your day is full of love and light! Love you from the bottom of my heart!!"

Kennedy is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language neo-noir thriller film written and directed by Kashyap and is about an insomniac ex-police officer long thought to be dead, who operates secretly for the corrupt system, lives in different conditions and goes on a lookout for salvation.

Along with Sunny Leone in the lead roles, the film also stars fashion model Rahul Bhat marking the third collaboration of Kashyap and Bhat after Ugly (2013) and Dobaaraa (2022).

Kennedy premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival on 24 May 2023 and received a standing ovation at the screening. It was also selected as the closing night film at the 14th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne(IFFM) besides being premiered at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival an international film festival held annually in July in Bucheon, South Korea.

Earlier, Kashyap had said, "I am delighted that 'Kennedy' is the closing film at IFFM. It's the first Indian film festival we are playing in the world, and I am excited to know the response of the audience. I will be there to attend the same and gauge the response, and am sure that they'll like the film, like the global audience who's seen the film till now".

Apart from 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and 'Dev.D' Kashyap is known for hard-hitting films like 'Black Friday' which had a raw and unapologetic portrayal of the 1993 Bombay bombings. His technique of writing and direction in this film involved unique storytelling skills backed by impeccable research bringing to life the events leading up to this tragic incident that took place in Mumbai.

The 2009 film 'Gulaal' was another of Kashyap's remarkable films that scored high on moments. The critically acclaimed film explores themes such as the pursuit of power, quest for legitimacy, perceived injustices and hypocrisy of the powerful and is a rigorous investigation of politics and power against the turbulent Rajasthani setting displaying sobering revelation of the hazy distinctions between good and wrong.
