Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan breaks single day collection record

MUMBAI: After his record-breaking last film 'Pathaan' which was released in January this year and grossed Rs 1,050 crore worldwide making it the second-highest-grossing Hindi film of all time, Shah Rukh Khan’s latest action film 'Jawan' has scaled new records by grossing the highest single day collection ever at the box office in India.

Taking to Instagram Deepika Padukone who plays the role of Aishwarya Rathore, Vikram's wife (Shah Rukh Khan plays a dual role as Capt. Vikram Rathore and his son Jailer Azaad Rathore) shared the news of the thriller recorded highest single-day collection. The film is a father-son story that addresses social and political issues through its hero, both roles played by Shah Rukh Khan.

On its first day of release, the film's Hindi version netted a record-breaking collection of Rs 65.5 crore in India, with a further Rs 10 crore from its dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions, for a net total of Rs 75.5 crore. Worldwide, all versions grossed Rs 129 crore on the opening day.

On its second day, the Hindi version netted Rs 45 crore in India for a total net collection of Rs 110 crore. It also became the first Hindi film to net over Rs 200 crore in 3 days domestically, overtaking SRK's film Pathaan.

Directed by Tamil filmmaker Atlee, the pan-India film was released on Thursday in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It also stars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi along with Padukone, Aaliyah Qureshi, Ridhi Dogra, Sunil Grover and Mukesh Chhabra as well as Sanjay Dutt in a cameo appearance.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment the producer of the film posted, "Jawan has made history and it's only the beginning! Have you watched it yet?"

According to trade experts, Jawan appears to be heading to break the record of Pathaan if not equal it and with this the producer-actor is set to become the first Indian to gross two films in the same year that will earn a whopping Rs 1000 crore.

The film was initially planned for release on 2 June 2023 but was postponed due to unfinished post-production work and was finally released on 7 September 2023 coinciding with Janmashtami.

Another of Shah Rukh Khan’s films ready for release is director Rajkumar Hirani’s next called Dunki opposite Taapsee Pannu. The term Dunki which loosely refers to a donkey flight is Punjabi slang for illegal entry and illegal immigration by Indians to countries like Canada and the USA.
