Mild earthquake in parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha in Maharashtra

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar made a statement in the legislative assembly informing that an earthquake of 4.5 magnitude was experienced at 7.14 am in Hingoli, Parbhani, Beed, Jalna, Nanded, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar districts in Marathwada, and Washim and nearby areas in the Vidarbha region and its epicentre was at Rameshwar Tanda village in Kalamnuri taluka of Hingoli district. The earthquake reportedly struck at a depth of 10 km.

Pawar however said that the earthquake which impacted certain parts of the state on Wednesday was mild and that there was no report of any casualty further appealing to people to stay alert and not panic as the administration had taken this incident seriously and was taking all precautionary steps. Pawar said, "There was panic among locals, but citizens have been advised to stay alert and the administration is taking all precautionary steps."

According to reports, the Nanded district administration has also said in a release that the earthquake recorded at 7.14 a.m. with its epicentre at Rameshwar Tanda village in Kalamnuri taluka was mild and no untoward incident has been reported from any place so far. The Nanded district administration has appealed to the people to remove stones kept on the tin rooftops (to add weight) of their houses, which may fall or cause injury.

Local television news reports also showed people who panicked after being jolted by the earthquake rushing out of their houses to save their lives as they felt the tremors.  In March this year, tremors of 4.5 and 3.6 magnitude were recorded in the region, with the epicentre at Jamb village in Kalmanuri taluka of Hingoli.
