PM Modi in Mumbai, says '8 crore jobs created in 3-4 years'

MUMBAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi while speaking at an event in Mumbai's Goregaon suburb, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for Rs 29,000 crore worth of projects in the road, railway, and port sectors said that eight crore new jobs have been created in India over the past three to four years. PM Modi arrived in Mumbai earlier in the day and was felicitated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar.

Citing the facts attributed to a recent report by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) PM Modi said, "This figure has silenced those spreading fake narratives on jobs,” he said taking a swipe at the opposition parties which are consistently highlighting the rising unemployment rate in the country.

PM Modi said, "According to the RBI report, in the last 3-4 years, around 8 crore new jobs have been created in the country. These figures have silenced those who spread false narratives. These individuals oppose investment, infrastructure, and the country's development and are now being exposed. The people of our country now see through their lies. The NDA is committed to supporting the poor, farmers, women, and youth."

Further mounting his attack on the opposition parties, PM Modi referred to Congress' allegations of the Atal Setu bridge developing cracks and said, "Atal Setu now serves 20,000 vehicles daily, saving 25 lakh litres of fuel. Metro development is also progressing rapidly. Ten years ago, Mumbai had only 8 km of metro lines; today, we have 80 km, with ongoing work for 200 km more," further adding, "Our motive is to make the quality of life best in Mumbai; therefore, connectivity around Mumbai is being improved."

He further took potshots at the Congress party leaders saying, "In Mumbai, the coastal road and Atal Setu have been completed, and you may remember that misinformation was spread about the Atal Setu. Every effort was made to stall it, but everyone is benefiting from it."

Among the other projects that he inaugurated, including laying the foundation stone of two twin tunnels between Thane and Borivali as well as the BMC’s Goregaon Mulund Link Road and important road and rail projects, including the new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and the extension of platforms 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.
