Blue Corner Interpol notice to track down rape-accused MP Prajwal Revanna

BENGALURU: Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said on Sunday that the Indian authorities had sought the help of Interpol to bring the Janata Dal-Secular or JD(S) member of parliament from Hassan, back to India and that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which has been formed to probe the sex scandal will now determine a way to bring Revanna back. This development came hours after the SIT arrested his father HD Revanna on molestation and kidnapping charges. Parameshwara told reporters in Bengaluru, "Already Blue Corner notice has been issued. The Interpol will inform all the countries and locate him, and we are confident that he will be apprehended and brought to face the law very soon."

The SIT had on Thursday first filed a rape case against Prajwal Revanna later a second FIR was filed under IPC sections 376(2)(N), 506, 354A(1)(ii), 354(B), 354(C), and the IT Act. These sections pertain to committing rape repeatedly, criminal intimidation, demand for sexual favour, assault or criminal force on a woman with the intention to disrobe her, and uploading nude or semi-nude pictures.

Prajwal Revanna's scandal came into the limelight on the day of the election in Karnataka's Hassan when his polling agent complained to the police that falsified photos of Revanna were being circulated widely in the Hassan district. It was also reported that obscene photos and videos featuring hundreds of women, which were allegedly recorded by Revanna himself, were doing the rounds ahead of elections in the constituency. Revanna fled the country soon after the allegations surfaced and was reported to have gone to Frankfurt in Germany on April 26.

As the scandal came to light, the matter escalated into a huge political row, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)  in alliance with Mr Devegowda's Janata Dal-Secular in Karnataka. Leaders of the BJP have however distanced themselves from the matter. When asked about JDS chief HD Kumaraswamy's comment that it is 'all planned' by the Congress government, Mr Parameswara said, "It is not necessary for us. For the government it is not necessary. Somebody gives a complaint and police act accordingly". He added the state has formed a SIT considering the seriousness of the case, and given them full freedom to do justice".
