Kangana Ranaut allegedly slapped by security staff at Chandigarh airport

NEW DELHI: Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut who was elected as a member of parliament (MP) from Himachal Pradesh, Mandi Lok Sabha seat earlier last week was slapped by a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) guard posted at the Chandigarh airport on Thursday afternoon.

The CISF woman constable, identified as Kulwinder Kaur, was suspended and an FIR was registered against her at Chandigarh Airport based on a written complaint by CISF officials, a complaint has also been given by CISF to the local police. Kaur has been booked under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

While the matter is under investigation media reports said that after the security check, Kangana was going to the boarding gate where she was slapped by the CISF personnel as she was reportedly upset with some of Kangana’s previous statements about the farmers’ protest in India. Kulwinder Kaur said that Kangna Ranaut gave a bad statement about Punjab women during the farmers’ agitation against three farm laws. According to some reports that shared a brief video footage Kaur said she had been triggered by an old remark by Kangana about the farmer's protest. "She gave a statement that farmers are sitting there for Rs 100. Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she gave this statement," Kaur is purportedly heard saying in a video.

The actress-turned-politician was travelling to New Delhi days after her Lok Sabha elections win from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency. After the incident she promptly addressed the incident on social media and released a statement, reassuring her fans and the public that she was safe, and also raised concerns about Punjab, stating, “I am safe, but my concern is, how will you handle the terrorism and extremism growing in Punjab? Thank you”

While several farmer bodies and sympathisers have spoken in support of Kaur, a string of film celebrities including Hrithik Roshan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Zoya Akhtar, Soni Razdan, Arjun Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Mika Singh, Raveena Tandon, and Shekhar Suman lent their support to Kangana.
