Malaika Arora's father allegedly dies by suicide in Mumbai

MUMBAI: In a very tragic turn of events, renowned actress and television personality Malaika Arora is mourning the loss of her father, Anil Arora, who reportedly died by suicide at his residence in the suburban Bandra area of Mumbai. 

According to news reports quoting police sources, Arora's body was discovered after he fell from the sixth floor of the building, and the police were informed and an immediate team arrived at the site but unfortunately, it was too late to revive him.

Although sources close to Malaika, have reportedly claimed that it was an accident the police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. As of now, no suicide note has been found, and the reasons behind this devastating act remain unclear. Police officers said that the body has been sent for post-mortem and a probe is underway.

The incident which has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and beyond, occurred on the morning of September 11, 2024, when Arora jumped from the terrace of his residence Ayesha Manor situated at Bandra West. He was 62 years old.

Malaika who according to some reports was in Pune at the time, rushed back to Mumbai upon receiving the news. Her ex-husband, Arbaaz Khan brother of actor Salman Khan was seen at the family residence, offering support during this difficult time. The couple, who were married for 19 years before their divorce in 2017, have remained amicable co-parents to their only son Arhaan Khan. Salman Khan's sister Alvira Agnihotri, and actor Arjun Kapoor were also among the early ones who were seen visiting the bereaved family. 

Malaika’s parents, Joyce Polycarp who is a Malayali Christian and Anil Arora who was from Punjab and worked in the Indian Merchant Navy, separated when she was 11 and her sister also an actor Amrita, who was 6 at the time. They were first based in Maharashtra's Thane but after her parents divorced she moved to Chembur with her mother and sister Amrita.

Arora was earlier employed in the Merchant Navy. In past media interactions and interviews, Malaika has said that after their parent's divorce their mother was primarily responsible for raising them but the event had deeply impacted her and her younger sister.

Mallaika, known for her work in Bollywood films and as a judge on various reality shows, has been a prominent figure in the Indian entertainment scene. Friends and colleagues have expressed their condolences and support for her during this difficult time.
