MUMBAI: Bollywood actress turned politician and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has reportedly sold her bungalow located in the upscale Pali Hill area of Bandra, Mumbai, for Rs 32 crore. She had originally bought the bungalow for Rs 20.7 crore in September 2017 and had used the property as the office for her production house, Manikarnika Films. The bungalow spans 3,075 square feet and includes an additional parking garage, further adding to its value.
She had reportedly taken a Rs 27 crore loan from the bank against it in December 2022 from ICICI Bank.
The buyer is identified as Shweta Bathija, a partner at Kamalini Holdings based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and the transaction was officially registered on September 5, 2024, with a stamp duty of Rs 1.92 crore and a registration fee of Rs 30,000.
The said property has been in the spotlight for several years, particularly due to allegations of structural violations that led to a controversial demolition notice from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in 2020.
The sale comes amid heightened attention surrounding Ranaut's upcoming political biographical drama *Emergency,* which has been courting controversy with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) stalling its release by clearing it with a ‘UA’ certification, on the condition that the filmmakers make three cuts and provide factual sources for controversial historical statements.
When Kangana Ranaut filed her nomination for the Lok Sabha polls, the affidavit revealed that she had Rs 92 crore in assets, and her fixed assets, worth Rs 62.9 crore, were primarily in commercial and residential properties — all self-acquired. She had disclosed that in the past two years, she has purchased four commercial properties in Chandigarh for Rs 2.46 crore, in addition to owning commercial spaces in Kullu and Mumbai, valued at Rs 28.95 crore.
Her residential holdings include a flat in Maharashtra, where she primarily works, and a house in her birthplace of Himachal Pradesh, collectively valued at Rs 31.5 crore.
