Tata Punch achieves impressive sales milestone among 20 best-selling SUVs

NEW DELHI: The Tata Punch has reached a remarkable sales figure of 88,109 units during the April-August 2024 period, solidifying its position as one of the top-selling compact SUVs in India. This is an impressive rise of 48% on a year-on-year basis, highlighting the growing popularity of the Punch among consumers.

The Hyundai Creta follows closely, securing its position as the top midsize SUV with 80,514 units sold, marking a 13% year-on-year growth. Other notable performers include the Maruti Brezza and Maruti Ertiga, with sales figures of 78,337 and 77,620 units, respectively. The Ertiga, in particular, saw a remarkable 52% increase in sales.

Among the other impressive risers, the Hyundai Exter recorded 35,030 units, a 143% rise in sales, while the Mahindra XUV 300 with 41,501 units saw a 67% year-on-year increase for the same period.

However, some brands recorded negative sales during the same period. The Mahindra Bolero saw 38,352 units sold, while the Hyundai Venue, with 46,262 units, registered a decline of 13% in sales year-on-year.

Of FY-2024’s record 4.21 million passenger vehicle sales, the utility vehicle (UV) segment accounted for a 60 per cent share. After the first five months of FY2025, UV wholesales are already 44 per cent of their FY-2024 total. Kia Carens and Kia Seltos also saw declines of 11% and 10%, respectively.

The UV segment, with sustained double-digit growth, continues to act as a buffer for declining hatchback and sedan sales. At 1.10 million units, wholesales, or vehicle dispatches to showrooms in the April-August 2024 period, were up 15 per cent year-on-year. UV dispatches account for 63 per cent of overall passenger vehicle sales of 1,739,044 units in the first five months of FY2025, compared to 57 per cent in April-August 2023.

In recent months, the Tata Punch has consistently topped sales charts, with significant monthly sales figures contributing to its overall success. For instance, in August 2024 alone, the Punch sold 15,643 units, despite a slight month-on-month decline of 2.97%.

The Punch's ability to cross the 400,000 sales milestone in just 34 months since its launch further underscores its rapid acceptance among Indian consumers. The vehicle's performance has been bolstered by a year-on-year growth of 34%, showcasing its resilience in a competitive market.

This achievement makes it the fastest sub-compact SUV to reach this landmark, reflecting Tata Motors' effective strategy in catering to the evolving preferences of car buyers.
