Actor Rajpal Yadav loses calm on journalist asking about his Diwali video controversy

MUMBAI: Bollywood’s iconic comedic actor Rajpal Yadav, known for his satire roles, recently found himself in hot water. While promoting his latest film, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3,” Yadav was involved in a viral incident where he snatched a journalist’s phone after being questioned about his recent apology regarding Diwali firecrackers. The video is purportedly said to be from an event in Uttar Pradesh.

The controversy began when Yadav urged fans to avoid bursting firecrackers during Diwali, which led to mixed reactions. While his message appeared to be in support of animal welfare, the video quickly attracted backlash from some users who accused him of hypocrisy.  Many took to online and pointed out that he has previously been seen endorsing products like chicken and meat biryani in advertisements. Despite issuing an apology, the topic resurfaced during a media interaction, resulting in Yadav’s frustrated response.

As the confrontation escalated when Yadav snatched the journalist’s phone the video of this incident quickly went viral, showing Yadav visibly agitated as he demanded the return of his belongings from the media personnel.

In this video that has gone viral on the internet, a journalist can be seen asking Rajpal about his upcoming film. Rajpal, who looked visibly irked, replied by saying, “Dedh mahine mein ek film dekhne milegi.” Further, the reporter then asked Rajpal about his recent statement about not bursting firecrackers before Diwali which created a lot of buzz.

The journalist was perhaps expecting some response from the actor, however, this question seemed to have irked the Bhool Bhulaiyaa actor so much that in a fit of rage, he tried to snatch the reporter’s phone and even throw it away. This incident has drawn significant attention on social media, with some criticizing Yadav’s actions and others defending him.

Over the years Yadav has gained widespread recognition for his slapstick comic performances and has won several awards such as Filmfare, Screen Awards etc. With a career spanning over two decades, Rajpal Yadav has appeared in over 100 films, including notable hits like "Jungle" (2000), "Hungama" (2003), "Waqt: The Race Against Time" (2005), "Phir Hera Pheri" (2006), "Bhool Bhulaiyaa" (2007), and "Krrish 3" (2013).
