Actor, director Rajiv Kapoor passes away at 58

MUMBAI: Kapoor family member, actor, producer and director Rajiv Kapoor popularly known as Chimpu today died from a MASSIVE heart attack at his home in Mumbai 's Chembur area, he was age 58. 

His elder brother, actor and director Randhir Kapoor rushed him to Inlaks Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Grandson of legendary actor Prithviraj Kapoor son of Raj Kapoor was his father Rajiv was the youngest of the three, Randhir Kapoor and the late Rishi Kapoor were elder to him while Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor were his uncles. He was married to Aarti Sabharwal an architect, in 2001 but they divorced in 2003, they had no children.

Rajiv made his debut in Ek Jaan Hain Hum in 1983 and acted in several other films with the most notable being Aasmaan (1984), Lover Boy (1985), Zabardast (1985) and Hum To Chale Pardes (1988). He played the leading role in his father's last directorial venture Ram Teri Ganga Maili in 1985. His last film appearance wa in Zimmedaaar in 1990 after which he turned to producing and directing.

In 1991 he produced Henna in 1991, directed by his brother Randhir Kapoor, and made his directorial debut with the commercially unsuccessful Prem Granth, which starred his brother Rishi Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit.

Family members including nieces Karishma and Kareena Kapoor and members of the film fraternity tweeted paying their condolences for Rajiv.
