The second wave of coronavirus hits Bollywood very hard

MUMBAI: The film industry especially Bollywood which was trying to slowly limp to normalcy with production activity gaining pace in the past few months, is getting impacted due to the second wave of the COVID-19 infections with several A-listers and other technicians falling prey to the virus. 

Among the early ones who caught the infection included actors Ranbir Kapoor, Manoj Bajpayee, Paresh Rawal, Amir Khan and his co-star from 3 Idiots, R Madhavan and Kartik Aaryan. Dangal actress Fatima Sana Shaikh tested positive for the infection on March 29 and is in self-quarantine since then. 

Yesterday, actress Alia Bhatt announced that she had tested positive for COVID-19 and was under home quarantine, at the same time director of her upcoming film, 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' director Sanjay Leela Bhansali had tested positive for COVID-19 a few weeks back.

On March 31, renowned music director Bappi Lahiri tested positive for COVID-19, the singer's spokesperson said that despite utmost precautions, Lahiri has tested positive for the infection and was admitted at the Breach Candy Hospital.

Singer and popular host Aditya Narayan and his wife Shweta Agarwal have also tested positive for COVID-19. Narayan shared the news on social media and said that they were under home quarantine.

Meanwhile, actress and politician, Kirron Kher, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament from Chandigarh, is in hospital battling cancer. 

Her actor-husband Anupam Kher Thursday released a statement on Twitter, "Just so that rumours don't get the better of a situation Sikandar and I would like to inform everyone that Kirron has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. She is currently undergoing treatment and we are sure she will come out of this stronger than before. We are very blessed that she is being looked after by a phenomenal set of doctors. She's always been a fighter and takes things head on."
