Bangladesh records 1,822 new COVID-19 cases, total tally gone up to 769,160

DHAKA: India's eastern neighbouring country Bangladesh has reported 1,822 new COVID-19 cases and 41 new deaths today, and according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) the total tally has gone up to 769,160.

According to the official data 21,585 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across the country. According to the official data, the COVID-19 fatality rate in Bangladesh is now 1.53 per cent and the current recovery rate is 91.29 per cent. The total number of recovered patients in the country stood at 702,163 including 3,698 new recoveries on Thursday, said the DGHS.

Meanwhile lending a helping hand Bangladesh today handed over 10,000 vials of Remdisivir to a representative of the Indian Government by the Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata at the Indian border port of Petrapole.

These 10,000 injections manufactured by Bangladeshi company BEXIMCO Pharmaceuticals are sent as medical assistance on behalf of the Bangladeshi people at the instruction of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for the COVID affected people of India.

This was the 1st consignment of medical assistance including medicines and health protection items Bangladesh offered to India as support to the Indian people during this deteriorating COVID-19 situation in India.

Spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi tweeted, "By air, by sea, and now by land. A consignment of essential medicines enters West Bengal (India) via the land border at Petrapole. Thank our neighbour & close friend Bangladesh for this gesture & support. Taking forward our unique relationship."
