Gulshan Kumar's son Bhushan Kumar Dua, MD of T-Series booked for rape

MUMBAI: Bhushan Kumar Dua, son of Gulshan Kumar, the late music tycoon and founder of Super Cassettes Industries Limited, also known as T-Series has been booked for allegedly raping a woman on the promise of providing a job to her in some projects of his own company.

The First Information Report (FIR) was registered today at DN Nagar police station in the Andheri suburban area of Mumbai today, on the basis of the complaint filed by the 30-year-old woman who has stated that she knew Bhushan since August 2017, and he sexually exploited her between 2017 and 2020 on the pretext of helping her in her career.

Bhushan Kumar has been charged under Indian Penal Code sections 376 (rape), 420 (cheating), 506 (criminal intimidation). Police officers at the DN Nagar police station said that since the offence has been registered it would be doing its investigations after which they will take the further course of action.

Although no arrests have been made as yet, the officers said, however in course of an investigation if it is required then they would take necessary action.

Bhushan is not new to such controversies and Bollywood circles are abuzz with his alleged antics involving wannabe actors although, except one, no one has made their grievances in any public forum. During the 'Me Too' movement, in June 2018, a statement was widely circulated on social media in which a woman, without disclosing her name, accused Bhushan Kumar of sexual misconduct.

In June of 2020, singer Sonu Nigam took the name of actress Marina Kuwar in a video spat with Bhushan and his wife Divya Khosla Kumar reminding them of her explosive video. Bhushan has refuted all the charges and his wife called Nigam ungrateful to the mentors who gave him a break.

Bhushan is the chairman and managing director of T-Series founded by Gulshan Kumar famously called the 'Cassette king', who was shot dead in 1997 in Mumbai's Andheri area. He is one of the leading producers of films since 2001 with his first project 'Tum Bin' and in the current year 2021, he is producing nearly a dozen high budget films under his banner which also includes Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 a standalone sequel to director Priyadarshan's 2007 iconic horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa.
