Maruti Suzuki announces its largest recall of 1,81,754 cars to replace a faulty unit

NEW DELHI: In the largest ever recall of affected cars, domestic automaker Maruti Suzuki has announced a recall of 1,81,754 cars of various models including petrol trims of models, including Ciaz, Vitara Brezza and XL6, manufactured between May 4, 2018, and October 27, 2020.
In the exercise to be undertaken globally the company will replace faulty motor generator units of the affected cars that may be potential safety defects, Maruti said. A motor-generator unit helps in giving more power to the engine.
Maruti adding that affected vehicle owners would be receiving communication from the company’s authorised workshops on the recall and repair procedures post which they would be able to schedule the free service.
In a regulatory filing on Friday, Maruti said, "As a responsible corporate, keeping in mind customers’ safety, the company has announced to proactively undertake a recall of some petrol variants of Ciaz, Ertiga, Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and XL6."
"In the interest of customers, Maruti Suzuki has decided to voluntarily recall the affected vehicles for inspection or replacement of motor generator unit free of cost," it added.
The replacement of the affected part should start from the first week of November 2021, and Maruti has said that till then, customers have been requested to avoid driving in water-logged areas and direct water spray on electrical or electronic parts in vehicles, the automaker has advised its customers.
