Jail for Raj Kundra, but why reprieve for porn king Vibhu Agarwal?

MUMBAI: Even as actress Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra and his team remain incarcerated in jail for sexually exploiting women under the pretext of producing films and running a porn racket showing adult content on an OTT platform, on the other hand, Vibhu Agarwal, the owner of 'Ullu' app, against whom several complains have been lodged, is roaming freely without police taking any action against him.

According to several sources, many models and women actors have already lodged complaints with local police stations, including at the Amboli police station, about alleged victimisation by Agarwal in the pretext of giving them roles in the films but he remains free.

Advocate Satyam Singh Rajput, appearing for the victimized women says that despite loads of evidence provided by many women against being coerced and blackmailed into participating in adult content videos, the police have failed to take any action against Vibhu.

Rajput said, "Forget taking any action, on the contrary, it seems Vibhu is more powerful and influential than Kundra and is being allowed to roam freely besides using intimidation on the friends and family of the victimized women."

Sources say that the cases of Kundra and Agarwal may only be the tip of the iceberg since there are several small and even known producers are engaged in the business of producing porn content for the domestic Indian market.

They say that the modus operandi is almost as same as what Kundra's production team (who are now behind bars) use to trap gullible ladies. Not only that the network is now spread to non-actors as well. "In the name of chance in films, a huge number of middle-class women are being lured into such traps while all they want is to struggle for their livelihoods," sources said.

According to Rajput, in the case of his clients, details of how these women were forced to strip their garments and pose for the porn content makers have also been recorded by the counsel for the victims, however, Agarwal his team who also aid him in his crime are still beyond their reach. "Why is the city police which acted with alacrity in arresting Kundra are highly reluctant to act on Vibhu Agarwal and his co-conspirators?"

According to Rajput, women who have suffered should form a team and proactively create awareness about the tricks and tactics that are adopted by these unscrupulous elements catering to the adult and porn content requirements of their clients.

"It’s a case of prevention is better than cure. Legal battles might play out their natural course with the reportage appearing in media platforms every now and then. However, when women come together and highlight the tricks and coercion tactics adopted by those preying on gullible minds, a high level of alertness will get generated and will help caution women who might fall prey to their traps in the near future." Rajput said.
