Aryan Khan walks out on bail from Arthur Road jail, after 22 days

MUMBAI: Two days after his layers secured bail, Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was released from the Arthur Road prison, at about 11 am and reached his house Mannat where hundreds of fans had gathered to get a glimpse of Aryan and his actor father.

On Thursday, October 28, a single bench of Justice N W Sambre of the Bombay High Court had granted bail to Aryan who was accused no 1, co-accused no 2 and his close friend Arbaaz Merchant and model Munmun Dhamecha who were arrested on October 3 by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the case of seizure of drugs-on-cruise off the Mumbai coast.

However, the operative orders for all three were received only on Friday after which the bail order had to be processed at the designated Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) court, which had earlier refused bail to the three.

Since the bail order had stipulated a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh each with one or two sureties of the same amount. Shah Rukh Khan's close friend and actor Juhi Chawla stood as surety for Aryan and completed the formalities.

The procedures to process the release orders were completed only in the late evening and as the inmates are not released after dark, thus it took two days for Aryan to walk free of the jail.

All the release orders which are dropped after 5.30 pm on the previous day into the jail bail box are collected at 5.30 am in the morning and then are then verified and processed for each order which takes time.

Earlier in the morning, Arthur road jail superintendent Nitin Waychal had said that Aryan along with all the other inmates who had secured release order from the court and dropped into the box would be released between 10 am to 12 noon.

As the news of Aryan's release spread through the media, a large crowd of onlookers and Shah Rukh Khan's fans had gathered outside the prison hoping to catch a glimpse of the actor and his son, due to which there were traffic snarls on the narrow road outside the jail. The jail guards and the police had were seen making extra efforts to manage the crowd, maintain order and manage traffic.

Aryan came out of the jail at about 11 am and he was immediately whisked into a waiting Range Rover car by his father's bodyguard and it took about 30 minutes for them to travel the 14 kms drive from Arthur Road to his house at Bandra sea face area via the sea link.

The High Court has stipulated about 14 conditions while granting the bail to all the three, which includes that they will not try to establish communication with each other and the other co-accused, will have to surrender his passport to Special NDPS court thus will not leave the country without prior permission of NDPS court and cannot leave Mumbai without informing investigating officer, shall attend the NCB office between 11 and 2 pm every Friday to mark presence and will not repeat similar offence.
