Country's Omicron tally rises to 61, 8 more cases in Maha, 4 in Delhi

NEW DELHI: The tally of Omicron cases in the country has gone up to 61. While Delhi has reported four more cases of Omicron while more persons have tested positive for the new COVID-19 variant in Maharashtra.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that so far six people have been found Omicron-positive and all of them had travelled to foreign countries. The six patients were transferred to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan hospital from the Indira Gandhi International airport in the capital and one of them has been discharged from the hospital. 

Jain added that the condition of the remaining five Omicron-positive patients is stable and there was no need to worry.

Meanwhile in Maharashtra, the state health department has said that as per a report by the Pune-based National Institute of Virology eight new patients were found to be infected with Omicron in the state. The state report has said that seven of the eight were from Mumbai and one was from its satellite township of Vasai-Virar.

Interestingly, none of the eight patients in Maharashtra had an international travel history, unlike the patients in Delhi, seven of them were fully vaccinated.

Bollywood has been badly affected by Covid-19 and after actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday after attending a party hosted by producer Karan Johar on December 8, one of her house help had also tested positive for Covid-19 and subsequently the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) sealed her building.

Among those who were present at the party hosted by Johar, actor Amrita Arora, actor Sohail Khan’s wife Seema Khan and actor Sanjay Kapoor’s wife Maheep Kapoor had also tested positive. Although Johar himself, actor Malaika Arora and actor Alia Bhatt, who also attended the party, tested negative according to BMC officials who had traced over 110 people who attended the party at Johar’s Bandra West house.
